ERA ’30: Skills that will make you successful in 2026-2030

Gone was the time when every high-school grad used to focus on coding for high paying jobs, some people still do. but most are facing very unfavorable results. 2000s, 2010s, everyone was running for next coding, SQL, data science, quant or research analyst jobs globally with the wave of computer and digital world. Gone was the time when every high-school grad used to focus on coding for high paying jobs, some people still do. but most are facing very unfavorable results. 2000s, 2010s, everyone was running for next coding, SQL, data science, quant or research analyst jobs globally with the wave of computer and digital world. Everyone wanted to ride the wave.

I’m still in touch with some school friends who chose Bachelor of Technology in CS or plain BSc. CS, just because it was easy money and low friction/low risk decision in early decades of this century. 2020 came around and people were running behind data science. Now 2030 is just 4 years away. Time passed like a flash.

Leadership qualities will make you successful not coding skills alone in 21st century.

And now with the boom of machine learning advancements in industry and innovation in multi modal, agentic AIs, every coder is under the immense pressure of differentiation and trying to make an identity for themselves that’s different from their peers. Because no one wants to lose, or get laid off right?

I’ve worked deeply into Game development for 5 years. Web development for about 9-10 years now and startup strategy for about 5 years. In those years (starting from high school) I had the privilege and I earned the privilege to sit with some of the brightest minds around the world I met to learn and share life experience with them.

During these years while I grew up, as I was born in 2004. I learned that hard skills don’t make a person different. They just make you a qualified robot that can execute a certain task. Hence this kind of person unfortunately can be replaced by machines. The crazy growth starts happening when you enter the territory of thinking new, innovation and ideation. The creative and emotional side of things.

What’s coming?

2030 is on horizon. It won’t be long before half century would have passed. The hardest hit will be to , Gen-A, Gen-Z and millennials in my humble opinion, because those are components of the current and future workforce. The world would be very different for all of us.

While Gen-A and Gen-Z can still adapt faster compared to Millennials. There’s no denying that the way we live right now, compared to how we will live in 2050 will be strikingly different in many ways, as technology is advancing faster than ever.

All hard skills are turning into something that is programmable now. With the rise in machine learning and digitalization as a whole. Every hard manual task is being automated to some degree and will be fully automated very soon. Like production, manufacturing, coding, finance, driving, packing etc.

There’s a wave that’s on the verge already and will fully take everything along with it. It’s called the automation wave. Military will be filled with robots, hospitals will be occupied by robotic surgeons, and agentic digital execution programs, computers can do most tasks now themselves without much human input. Hence, humans are becoming free again.

To do what we were supposed to do. Build connections, find similar minded people, innovate using creativity and think about our loved ones based on emotions and not money. UBI (Universal Basic Income) will soon be a reality in my extended amount of thinking. Where everyone gets basic survival money for doing nothing, just existing as a human.

But on the other hand, most people will lose their identity that is tied to their work or the purpose that their work brings to them. As those tasks will be acquired soon by automated agents or humanoid robots. Humans will soon learn to be nomads and pretty much free spirits with nothing to do, as they literally will have to do nothing for survival. It’s like returning back to the era where humans were basically stone age people minus the survival part, as it’s much safe now. The only difference will be current gen humans are much more aware and knowledgeable probably but still have nothing to do apart from spending time with our loved ones and family members. As we should do.

How to make sure we all are successful in this new era?
